Miata Door Bushing Replacement

Replacing your Miata door bushings is one of the best bang-for-your-buck upgrades that you can perform on your car. It’s a fast and easy job with all kinds of benefits. Upgraded door bushings help eliminate annoying door rattles, increase chassis rigidity, and give your door a solid “premium” sound when you close it.

Note: This process of Miata door bushing replacement is applicable for all generations of the MX5 – NA, NB, NC, and ND.

Instructions:

  1. Open your door, locate your door bushing and remove the 2 10 mm mounting bolts. Save these bolts since they will be used for mounting the new door bushings.

2. Line up the bolt holes with the new part. The curved part of the bushing should be facing out, away from the car.

3. Re-install the 2 mounting bolts, but do not tighten them down all the way. You want to have them snugged down enough that the bushing does not move around, but still loose enough that you are able to move the bushing up and down a bit if you try to by hand. If you examine the bushing you’ll note that there are slots so you have some play to move up or down for adjustments.

4. Close and re-open the door a few times. It may be a little more difficult the first time you go to close the door. But after doing closing it a few times the bushing should be “persuaded” in to the correct position by the cup piece on the door.

5. Finish tightening down the 2 mounting bolts.

6. Repeat these steps for the other side of the car.
