Whether you are a new NA Miata owner or an existing owner who wants to make sure that their car’s maintenance is up-to-date, it’s important to use quality parts. Poorly made / low-quality parts can leave you stranded, and using incorrect fluids can cause serious damage to important components.

This Mazda MX5 parts numbers list contains the OEM components and recommended fluids to use in your NA.

Oil – The NA Miata with the 1.6 engine (1990-1993) has an oil capacity of 3.6 quarts (3.4 liters.) The NA Miata with the 1.8 engine (1994-1997) has an oil capacity of 3.8 quarts (3.6 liters.) Oil Filter – Mazda OE part number B6Y1-14-302A – This OEM filter fits both the NA 1.6 and NA 1.8 Miatas.

Air Filter: Mazda OE part number B6S7-13-Z40-9U. For a more cost-effective option, you can also use a K&N air filter which is washable / reusable.

Battery Size: Group U1 / U1R

Automatic Transmission Fluid: ATF M-III / Dexron II

Manual Transmission Oil: 75W-90 GL-4 / GL-5 gear oil

Differential Oil: 75W-90 GL-4 / GL-5 gear oil

Coolant: Replace every 60,000 miles / 48 months, whichever comes first.

Power Steering Fluid: Same as ATF – ATF M-III / Dexron II

Brake Fluid: DOT-3 brake fluid. Although not an official recommendation from Mazda, most owners advise changing it every 2 years, or more frequently with track / performance use.

Spark Plugs: Mazda OE part number BP05-18-110 – These spark plugs fit both the NA 1.6 and NA 1.8 Miatas. NGK spark plugs are a good aftermarket alternative. Mazda recommends replacing your spark plugs every 30,000 miles or 24 months, whichever comes first.

Fuel Filter: OE part number B61P-20-490. Replace every 60,000 miles / 48 months, whichever comes first. Bosch also makes a quality aftermarket alternative.

Timing Belt: OE part number B6S7-12-205D. Replace every 60,000 miles / 48 months. It’s recommended that you change your water pump at the same time.
